Free this Sat: Donut galore, killer city apps, small press

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

There's lots on the calendar this Saturday and they're all free. Take your pick or go to all three. I might attempt the same.

  • Re-imagine a city that works well and fast at "LA Here and Now: A Smart Cities Incubator," a workshop produced by City Innovation Group and the USC Annenberg's Innovation Lab. No coding skills required, just a little creativity and the drive to see a better, smarter city. Use promo code "lovela."
  • See what it takes to build your own platform at "Shelf Life 2: A Big Day for Small Press." Independent publishers, writers and designers will be on-hand for talks and workshops on e-zine publishing, blogging, bookbinding and more.
  • Get a taste of LA's donut scene at a free pop-up donut shop courtesy of ForYourArt. Every two hours, a new donut flavor will be available. Staged to coincide with a free 24-hour screening of Christian Marclay’s video collage “The Clock” at the LACMA, the donut is a sweet lure to learn more about art this weekend. Kenny Scharf donut pins will also be given away.
