Free any weekend: Bike ride by the beach

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

Get on two wheels and enjoy the glory of living by the Pacific Ocean with a bike ride on The Strand. Los Angeles has a great 22-mile bike path that goes from Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades to Torrance County Beach in Torrance.

One cool and sunny weekend, some friends and I went adventuring. We started in Venice Beach and watched the views change from drum circles and rollerblading to high-end hobnobbing in Pacific Palisades. It's amazing what difference a few miles makes.

I loved not worrying about any cars by my side, the feel of the wind and the sight of Pacific Ocean. I even got a bonus with this colorful kite show somewhere in Santa Monica. If you have time this weekend, biking by the beach comes highly recommended. Dollars spent: $0. Dinner on the other hand is another matter, I was famished by the time we were done.

We're off!
A gorgeous surprise in the middle of the ride.
A closer look. See the scuba diver? What about the mermaid?
The Anneberg Beach House. I love its blue-orange color combination.
The Marion Davies Guest House is open to the public for tours on Mondays.
Saw her leaving the party at the Marion Davies house with a lion costume in hand. It must have been to celebrate the mid-Autumn Festival!
You can start riding pretty much at any point of the Strand. Here's a map.
