Worth it this Sat: The Thrilling Adventure Hour at Largo

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

I believe that places gradually take on the vibe of the people (like sauce gradually seeping into every nook and cranny of bread). That same reasoning is what told me Largo at the Coronet was special.

It could have been the beautiful string of lights right on the courtyard when you enter. It could have been the dark, dusky bar on the right. Or, the strange mannequin sculptures glowing in the incandescent light. Something about the place and the decor made me feel as if it had been there a while.

The old timey venue made it the perfect setting for "The Thrilling Adventure and Supernatural Suspense Hour," essentially a 1940s-style radio series acted live on-stage complete with sing-song ads for Patriot Brand Cigarettes and other made-up brand names. Like master storytellers, the actors read out their lines with vigor, their faces contorting alongside their emotions.

Expert comedians all of them, they'll surely have the audience eating out of the palm of their hand. If you're lucky, you might even catch a few known celebrities jumping into the mix. The most popular, I would assume, is Nathan Fillion of Firefly and Castle fame.

Despite being a handful to pronounce, "The Thrilling Adventure and Supernatural Suspense Hour" is worth a few hours of a great Saturday night. They enact a serialized radio show, so each month is a totally new performance each time. Ah... definitely an addiction waiting to happen. Here's their latest radio play up online:
