Free today: Design's Future

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

Problem. Solution. That’s the staid framework of designers everywhere. But that dynamic well… isn’t dynamic at all. In fact, it’s downright boring.

In its latest exhibition, “Made Up: Design’s Fictions,” The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena spices it up by presenting designs created by and for the outlandish, the silly and sometimes outright cuckoo, which might—just might—give birth to some tangible real world solutions. After all, weren’t Star Trek communicators the forefathers of today’s mobile phones?

Tonight, aside from wandering the design artifacts gathered from around the world, the College will also host "Get Real," a panel that will explore the factors of futuring. Guests include Geoff Manaugh of BLDGBLOG; Ian Sands, former Director of Envisioning for Microsoft Office Labs; and Jason Tester, Research Director at the Institute for the Future.
