Free thurs: Film screening of Herb Matter

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

Last week, I watched Visual Acoustics, a documentary of architectural photographer Julius Shulman. It was so well-made that I ended up absorbing more info not just on Shulman but California architecture as a whole. Documentaries (good ones at least) are a great way to soak in some knowledge while having a good time. That's why I'm sharing info on the screening of "The Visual Language of Herbert Matter" sponsored by the AIGA LA.

I've always viewed design as a very open field, but apparently that wasn't the case. Before Herbert Matter, it was practically unheard of to use photography in design. In his career, Matter did Vogue covers, collaborated with Charles and Ray Eames, influenced drip paintings by Jackson Pollock. Whew! Check out the trailer for the film.
