Splurge and Save Saturday + 17-mile walk

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

I'm back! Life is crazy busy right now, but that still doesn't mean I've stopped wandering around the city. I just haven't had the time to write it all down. At least you got to see my photo wanderings right?

Before Super Bowl Sunday rolls along, here are some great ways to spend your Saturday:
  • Chinese New Year celebrations. Chinatown knows how to usher in a new year. Acrobats, lion dances and contortionists will be parading around Hill and Broadway. Check this link for a full schedule.
  • Hip-Hop: A Cultural Odyssey. I have to admit, there's not much I have yet heard of that I want to check out at the Grammy Museum, so this is the first. featured on the second floor of the temporary exhibit gallery, the exhibition will challenge visitors to do some of their own mixing. Listening stations, video footage and rare photos from the nascent days of hip-hop are also on-hand. More info here.
You ask, "How will I get there?" How about walking? Intrepid Angelenos will be doing the 17-mile walk from San Fernando Valley to Downtown tomorrow. On their Facebook page:
We will be traversing the East San Fernando Valley starting at the North Hollywood Subway Station, through Toluca Lake., Burbank and Griffith Park. Silver Lake and Echo Park will be the final neighborhoods before entering Downtown Los Angeles. El Pueblo de Los Angeles and ending at Union Station where you can take the Redline Subway back to the start.
Here's a map. Be at the North Hollywood subway station Sat, Jan.9, at 8 am. That's all you need to know.

Happy weekend!
