There has been a lot of talk around town about new Metro routes (Subway to the Sea) and new means of transportation (High Speed Rail), but what do you ask is the big picture? Perhaps the best person to answer that is new city planning director Michael LoGrande.

Today, Los Angeles Times architecture critic Christopher Hawthorne sits down with LoGrande to discuss the new director's upcoming projects, plans and how he's adjusting to his position. If ever you had a burning question to ask about city planning, now is the time to air it. Write down your questions on the comments section of Hawthorne's article.

If you can, get to the event earlier and you'll be able to catch James Rojas' fun and innovative urban planning workshop. He ran a similar workshop for a downtown event hosted by RailLA, which I was able to cover for LA Downtown News a few months ago. Don't worry, there's no need for architectural licenses in this workshop, only the willingness to experiment.

The event is hosted by Occidental College's Urban and Environmental Policy Institute. RSVP by sending an email to
