Free today: Big Band at LACMA

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

What's a better way to start the holiday season than a big band send off from composer, arranger and bandleader John Altman. Tonight, Altman and his big band closes off the 2010 Jazz at LACMA season.

According to LACMA:
Altman's diverse career includes performances with Chet Baker, Plas Johnson, Ernie Watts, Red Holloway, Conte Candoli, Les McCann, Percy Heath and many others. He conducted the Stan Tracey Big Band and the Durham Cathedral Choir for an album of Duke Ellington's Sacred Music and was musical director for the all-star band assembled for the Amnesty International's benefit "The Secret Policeman's Other Ball" with an ensemble that included Sting, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Phil Collins.
