Free this Sat: The Great LA Walk

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

If you think nobody walks in LA, this Saturday's massive urban hike dispels that myth. On its fifth year, the Great Los Angeles Walks takes on Wilshire Boulevard, all 15.6 miles of it--from Pershing Square to Santa Monica. Hikers will pass through Downtown LA, Koreatown, Miracle Mile, Beverly Hills, Westwood and Santa Monica.

Despite cloudy skies this weekend, the walk stays on says organizers rain or shine. As always, the event is free, but lunch and snacks are completely up to you. Here are some FAQs, thoughtfully released by Franklin Avenue.

The walk also coincides with the LA Conservancy's launching of Curating the City: Wilshire Blvd. (, a virtual tour of said street with descriptions of eight neighborhoods and 160 structures.

So, what's the prize for adventurous walkers this weekend? If you get to Santa Monica, party with other hikers at Border Grill (keep cash or credit cards with you because it's not free). Walkers also get a free copy of the LA Conservancy booklet from 2005 that describe landmarks along the street.
