Cheap this Sun: Your plates as art

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

If you can spare a few plates this weekend, head on over to LACMA and see your plate become a work of art. Artist Bari Ziperstein creates a mandala using a year's worth of dinner plates (3 meals a day x 365 days) donated by the public. “1,095: One Year's Worth of Other People's Plates” is part of Fallen Fruit's collaboration with LACMA, "Let Them Eat LACMA."

From 11 am to 3 pm, Ziperstein will assemble a ceramic mandala made from the donated plates at the Art of America lobby at LACMA. Donated plates will receive a commemorative sticker, indicating their participation in the art. From 3 to 8 pm, in the spirit of true impermanent madalas, the public will be invited to disassemble Ziperstein's work of art until all the plates are gone.
