Resnick Pavilion seen coming up from the Pritzker undeground parking structure at LACMA

Free museum days? Sign me up. If, like me, you still haven't seen all there is to see at LACMA, this weekend it's opening its doors to celebrate a new addition to the massive campus--Lynda and Stewart Resnick Exhibition Pavilion.

While it's certainly a looker even when shuttered, this weekend gives the public a chance to roam inside the Renzo Piano-designed building. At 45,000 square feet, the single-story exhibition hall is the largest purpose-built, naturally lit, open plan museum space in the world. I know the numbers may not mean anything, but knowing Piano-designs this cavernous space will be anything but dark and unwelcoming.

Three exhibitions will be on view: selections from the Resnick Collection, masterpieces from Ancient Mexico and 18th-20th century European dresses in detail.
