Free today: art, design and dessert

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

Every third Wednesday of the month, Downtown Culver City revs up between 5 to 9 pm for its monthly block party. Taste food from award-winning restaurants, enjoy live music and, of course shop. Art galleries are also open later than usual for your viewing pleasure.

As Frances Anderton writes on her KCRW DnA blog, "Should design be beautiful?" That question is precisely what's tackled in tonight's free symposium at SCI-Arc.

London-based architect and professor Yael Reisner speaks about beauty in design. She gleans from her recently published book, "Architecture and Beauty: Conversations with Architects about a Troubled Relationship," in which she conducted interviews with architects like LA architecture luminaries Frank Gehry, Thom Mayne, Eric Owen Moss. Just a quick tip from Anderton, bring a shawl to ward off the cool wind at the outdoor affair.

To celebrate the premiere of "Top Chef: Just Desserts," the First & Hope Downtown Supper Club offers free desserts for every two people when you order an entree.
