Free this Fri: Park(ing) Day LA

Posted by Carren Jao Pineda |

Don't be surprised if your favorite parking spot turns into the city's newest (and most short-lived) mini-parks. This Friday is Park(ing) Day all around the world!

Of course, LA is never behind on the action. Park(ing) Day is an annual event where parking spaces are temporarily re-purposed for citizens' enjoyment! Anyone or any group can sign up for a spot, dream up their favorite activity and see it come to life for a few hours.

Gruen Associates will be giving away 150 seedlings for pedestrians using their park at 6230 Wilshire Blvd. Don't know what to do with seedlings? Stop by Seedlings for Earthlings on 3126 Los Feliz Blvd near Indian Sweets and Spices. They'll teach you to grow food right from your own planters.

Between 4th and 5th streets on Spring Street, Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council (DLANC) will host a space featuring an exhibit on the planned Spring Street Park adjacent to it. Bolt Barbers will also be giving complimentary haircuts throughout the day. Better than Fantastic Sam's, right?

If you're around town before the sun sets (most events only run until 6 pm), check out the full list of Park(ing) day spots and activities here.
